Emerge is a private service suitable for children on the spectrum or children who are waiting on a diagnosis, however a diagnosis is not required to attend. We understand how long the waiting lists are for a diagnosis and for services on public waiting lists. If you are unsure whether our service is suitable for your child we recommend contacting us through our contact page, and we can decide together whether emerge would be suitable for your son or daughter.
We work in blocks of 6-7 weeks with a commitment to one or more sessions per week required. Sessions cost €60.
E.g. 6 Week Block = €360
Group Sessions (60 minutes)
3-12 Years Old
What do these entail?
Sessions consist of 3-6 children - depending on the group.
We want our group sessions to be a place where children feel at ease and accepted for who they are.
Finding children who love and enjoy the same things and have the same interests is a huge step towards meaningful friendships and companionships with other neurodivergent children.
Our sessions are child-led – this is so important and something we have seen and learned throughout the last two years. Allowing children to have the freedom to choose what they want to do, and in particular how they want to play ensures fun sessions and natural and engaging interactions for everyone.
We use Natural Language Acquisition throughout our sessions – this is an effective way to benefit both Analytical and Gestalt language processors.
We encourage and model taking turns with shared interests and preferred items – which results in shared enjoyment between children and communication.
We help build on current imaginative play ideas which children may choose to adopt in future sessions and initiate this play independently.
The small group size allows them the opportunity to feel supported when they are feeling overwhelmed, learning how to cope with these feelings and learning from others.
We facilitate social interactions between children who are attempting to solve problems together during play. This is usually not possible in large busy group environments such as preschools and schools and may lead to missed opportunities to support and encourage a child appropriately.
We encourage play initiation with peers and support children joining in on peers play by modelling different phrases naturally during the interaction.
We are constantly updating our resources and toys to ensure we find games and activities suited to each individual group.
No two groups are the same and each group focusses on different areas.
Small groups allow children to follow game rules and learn to focus on having fun, rather than focusing on winning and losing. This develops their cooperative play skills and self-regulation around games.
Recognising emotions and considering perspective of self and others.
Feedback
Feedback is provided through the use of voice recordings after each session along with photos from the session. We encourage parents to look through these photos with their children and comment on the different things they are doing and who they are playing with throughout the session.
